We have "22" short stories at this time submitted for consideration in the Short Story Anthology for 2010. Let your friends and non-friends know that this is a FREE opportunity to have their work included in print.

It cost nothing to submit 1 - 3 stories. If you would like more information, return to the home page and click on Short Story Anthology 2010 and read all about it.

There is NO requirement to ever purchase any amount of books. If the authors would like to purchase, they will be allowed to purchase at a "special" author cost. The author may then sell the book for any price and keep the profit. This is a great opportunity to have your work in print. Submissions will close, when we have 50 entries.

Why does the SP web site get changed so much?

10/20/2010

Variety is the Spice of Life! People like to see that something is going on, whey they visit a web page. I, for one, do not go back time after time, if I do not see something changing on a web site.  That is one reason that I take the time to change the style, the look, the arrangement of things on the Sleepytown Press site. It makes it more interesting.

That is a great idea for your persoanl web sites. People want to see change.

Design:

1. Is the site’s design attractive?

2. Are the colors used related? Do you have hot pink with a color that does not match? If so, think about changing something.

3. Are the colors easy to read? Do you have yellow type on top of white pages? That will be very difficult to read.

4. Is the design appropriate? Does it fit the theme of your site? Visit similar web sites and see what is attractive to you.

Here is a suggestion that I made to an author concerning a cover design for her book. I told her to go to the local book store and look at similar books to her book. See what colors attract you as well as make you want to pick up the book. She reported back to me and told me what she liked and did not like.

I told her that it is important that she does not copy an author. The cover for her book needs to be original.

With all of that said, I will share this about my web site. I use weebly because I like it. it is easy. There are also a limited number of designs that are available for use on the site. I, for one, do not write HTML, so it is not easy for me to change the look of web pages. So, I choose to select from the options available.

That is a choice and someone way smarter than me can easily make even these web pages more original.

To make up for it, I frequently change

Fall Break

10/19/2010

Sorry, guys, I was out of town for Fall Break. Believe it or not, but we did not have internet in the condo. Yer, that is right. It would be there for maybe 10 minutes and then gone. I tried to send some emails and before I could type them the internet was gone. I did learn some important truths.

If a person does not have internet, and they are used to having it, you feel like you are on another planet or something. I felt out-of-touch. What did we ever do before internet? Maybe pick up the phone or something?

Being stranded on a deserted island with Oreos and milk, might not be that great.

We are still taking submissions for the Short Story Anthology. The cost to you is "zero." We just want to showcase some really good talent out there. A lot of you guys can really write good stuff. It needs to be read by people. So, get it to us.

If selected, we may ask you to spend some time editing the work or getting someone to read over it several times, before it is used for publication.

We need to make sure that the work that we present is our very best work. People judge us by our writing. Keep writing. Send submissions

Will Books Ever Go Out, like Records?

10/6/2010

I remember a time that I would put a record on the record player and listen to my favorite groups. Actually, I also remember 8 track tapes, too. And to make myself look even older, I remember everyone "Not Having" a microwave oven. They were expensive.

I remember having a black and white television and I promise that one day something showed up color on the screen. It was just for an instant, but I know that I saw it.

It is weird, when you think of all the things that have come and gone. It is weird, when you mention JFK and some young people never heard of him. Life is weird!

Some people believe that the ebook craze will destroy all books. They think that the publishing industry will stop making books. Look, as long as Kindles and Nooks need batteries, there will be books. Who likes purchasing batteries? I do not.

I do know that more and more people purchase books online. It is so much easier to find it online and have it shipped, that is, if you do not mind the wait. Also, you save gas. Who wants to buy a tank of gas today? I do not.

The internet has changes so many things. You do not even have to purchase a text book now, you can rent it.
