Have you ever thought about how much fun it would be to have a captive audience to listen to what you have to say? Did you know that blogging will increase the number of people that visit your web site? Did you know that blogging is as important as having contacts in your email program? Did you know that blogging helps to boost others opinion of you as a writer? Below, you will find a quick look at what blogging is all about.
In order to take the most advantage of blogging, you really need to consider the following:
1. Stay on task: Stay with the main message of your blog and keep it that way. Give the readers something that will help them, too. It is best that maybe 20% of your blog topic be about you and promoting your work. Think of how you feel, when you are around someone who talks of self constantly. If a person wants to know more about you, they will ask or do research. Readers want to find something practical that they can carry with them. Then, they want to know they can come back and find more, on a regular basis.
2. Have a plan: Keep a pen and notebook handy. Make notes on things that you would like to cover in the next blog. Read other blogs for inspiration. It is okay to be inspired at soemthing in the news and you blog about it. Always plan out blogs before your book comes out. Give readers information about that special event. Then, make sure to go back to the blog very soon after the event to tell how it went for you. Give the pros and cons of the event. Use yout blog to teach something that will be helpful to someone else.
3. Invite comments: Have a poll. Ask others to comment and tell what works for them. This creates a discussion board and most people like to see what others have to say.
4. Include links to you: You want the reader to like what you have to say and want to know more. Give links to places they can find you and learn more. Have a place where they can sign-up to receive your newsletter. Readers like it, when you they feel like you are giving them something.
5. Social connection: Use your Facebook and Twitter and MySpace accounts to accounce to people that they need to check-out your blog. This helps to drive people to your blog.
6. Be crafty: Make your updates interesting and timely. You will kill a web page or blog, if readers return and do not see change.
7. Connect: You can have a lot of blogs connected to Facebook or other social networks so that your blogs post their automatically.
8. As the Clock Ticks: Choose times of day, when the largest reader base will be online to post. Many people do not scroll down and read items way down on the list. Re-post at intervals, if needed.
It takes time. Do not expect results right away, but it will pay off in the end. A successful blog leads to more clicks on your web site.
