I would like to do something to boost creativity and build a "strong" network of support for all of us authors and illustrators and make some noise in the Book World!
Are you willing to join me and "Bang A Drum Loudly" for all of us? This is an unselfish attempt to build for all of us who love books. Book Clubs are not just for Oprah fans. They can help us to ALL come together and discuss topics that we are passionate about. I would like to start a Book Club. Members pay nothing to be a member. All you do is contribute as much as possible. At times, I will pick a book that I think the club will enjoy and at other times, I will ask for ideas from the members. I will invite authors to be in the "spotlight" and answer questions for the members. You can submit questions. When something good happens to a member, why can't we ALL share the good news and let others know. Guys, this is something that can help all of us. This is like "penny candy." i remember, as a child, collecting bottles and taking them to the store. The store owner would pay me money for returning the bottles. I would then turn around and purchase a full bag of penny candy. I felt like I was rich. Okay, "penny candy" does not exist anymore, but the concept is still available. it does not have to cost an arm and a leg to get some recognition. Drop me a message and tell me that you would like to join the Book Club. So many people keep saying that you should write what you know.
You don’t have to write about what you know. Keating had written a decade’s worth of successful Inspector novels before he ever visited India, where the books are set. You can write what you don’t know. Another False Statement: Everyone can write – That is so not true. It’s not something you simply learn and become passable at producing, like drawing a tree. You should have "The Sign" upon you! That thing! That amazing thing that makes you get out of bed every day and write. Are you interested in others? Curious about the world? Love books? Love words? Love a good story? Have you ever filled a notebook for the fun of it? Kept a diary? Written for no reason other than to put down an idea? Become fascinated by a writer? Or a book, a story – a sentence? if any of the above things make your heart go "pitter-patter-books," then you need to write and write and after you write, write. I have been taking a corresdpondence course from The Institute of Children's Literature. I have really enjoyed the challenges. They have forced me to look at things from a different angle. I am taking the class in "Writing for Children's Magazines." After the course, I will post the lessons here and the teacher comments so that you can see how it went. You might find inspiration and help, just by seeing my lessons. This has been a great weekend for hits on the Sleepytown Press Website. In fact, this has been one of the highest traffic weekends ever. It is really exciting, when nearly 300 people find your web site and look it over.
Most of the people find SP through a Google Search. Thank You, Google. There is still time to get short stories in for the Anthology. Once December 17th comes, I will devoting a lot of time to getting the stories in line and work on the book. If you are a writer and you would like to get some short stories submitted, you still have time. Remember, poets, I am accepting poems for a Poetry Anthology. get them in ASAP. I hope that you and yours have a Wonderful Holiday! |
