NOVEL CHALLENGE THE CHALLENGE has already begun for those authors listed on the home page.
Are you up for a challenge to start and finish a NEW Novel by November 1st, 2012? If you take this challenge, AND WIN, your entry will be published by Sleepytown Press in December of 2012.
Categories: Fiction (May be `Tween, YA, or Adult) May be General Fiction, Romance, Horror, YA, Mystery, Young Children's, Science Fiction, and Fantasy.
1. The first draft of each chapter must be written in "longhand." (You work on the honor system and write your complete novel as a first draft in longhand. We want you to take the challenge and then give us "feedback" on the process and how well it worked for you.) (This allows for going back and making notes in the margin and asking yourself questions. Then, you can bring it to life with details, as you edit the draft and type it on your computer.) 2. Writing Goal: 5 pages a day, when the writing is flowing smoothly out of the pen and onto the paper. (Minimum per day 3 pages.) 3. Chapters: Approximately 15 pages, hand written, if possible. Some chapters may be a little shorter as well as be a little longer.
Your Goal for the First "longhand" Draft: Get the story down. (Make notes in the margin as you write. Do not worry too much about correcting at this point. Talk to yourself in the margin.)
Your Goal for the Second Draft, typed or handwritten: Bring it to life with details. This is like putting meat onto the bones of the first draft.
Writing Goal: 5 pages a day, long hand, when words are flowing out of the pen and onto the page.

RULES: 1. Write the first draft "longhand" in a notebook of some kind. Go back and add notes in the margin. Check back here often for inspiration, as we share comments from those who wish to check-in with us often. 2. Set a goal of writing 5 pages a day, when all of the writing "juices" are flowing. Minimum per day: 3 pages. When you do not feel inspired, write something. 3. Set a goal of making the chapters approximately 15 pages handwritten. A little shorter is okay and a little longer is okay. 4. The "FIRST" draft is a time to "get the story down." You do not need to worry about perfection at this point. Make notes in the margin. This is a work in progress. 5. The second draft may be typed on your computer. This is the time to "make it come alive" with details and all of the things that make the novel amazing. 6. EDIT, polish, EDIT, polish, EDIT, and polish more.
Final goal: To have a complete novel written and ready to submit by November 1st, 2012.
ON NOVEMBER 1st: Email your complete MANUSCRIPT to [email protected] as an attachment to your email.
NOT REQUIRED, BUT INVITED: We would love to have updates on your progress so that we may share them with others and in our newsletter.
*THE WINNER WILL BE PUBLISHED AT NO CHARGE TO THE AUTHOR. There is no fee to enter this "Novel Challenge."
